YOUTH DIRECTOR

Cross & Crown Lutheran Church (ELCA) is seeking a Youth Director who will lead our Post-Confirmation Ministry Program. This program’s goal is to form our youth as disciples of Jesus Christ while supporting and guiding them in their changing lives. The Youth Director will uphold the values set out in Cross & Crown’s welcoming statement and bring a well-grounded Christian faith that can be shared with young people. The Director will work closely with congregational leadership to develop and implement programs that engage, educate, and inspire our youth. Respect for young people, the encouragement of questions & thoughtful discussions, the fostering of relationships, the promotion of inclusion, and the building of community are essential elements of this position.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Organize, facilitate, and lead an effective Middle School and High School Ministry that involves the youth in Worship, Bible Study, Prayer, Fellowship, and Service.

  • Facilitate and conduct post-confirmation Sunday School.

  • Meet with the pastor on a regular basis to discuss program curriculum and partner to ensure a theologically sound approach to faith development process.

  • Recruit, train, and equip adults and youth leaders for Middle School and High School Ministry and model a disciple role.

  • Create and lead regular gatherings for the youth.

  • Assist with Confirmation as needed to support and understand the activities of program.

  • Lead volunteer team to coordinate service activities, convention trips, and retreats.

  • Assist the volunteer team in planning and conducting fund-raising events, as necessary.

  • Communicate with the youth, parents and congregation regarding youth activities and initiatives.

  • Collaborate with other local youth ministers and directors on joint projects and activities.

  • Assist in equipping parents of youth in home faith formation.

  • Model and teach discipleship.

  • Engage congregation to actively support youth program and their faith development.

  • Be a visible presence in worship.

Required Qualifications:

  • A commitment to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America faith, traditions, doctrines, and practices.

  • Previous experience working with youth in a ministry or educational setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect and relate to youth from diverse backgrounds.

  • Creativity and innovation in developing relevant youth programming.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in religion (or related studies) or in education or youth development.

Other:

  • Successfully pass criminal background check

  • Complete child and adult sexual misconduct prevention training

Location:

  • Cross & Crown Lutheran Church, Indianapolis, Indiana

Employee Status:

  • Part-time: 10 hrs./week
  • Suggested time disbursement during the school year (September – May): 4 hrs. per Sunday, 6 hrs. per week with more flexibility during the summer.

Salary:

  • $15,524/year
